Description

The father-son editors, Peter H. Clark and Herbert Clark, established the Afro-American Publishing Co., to publish the Afro-American, weekly in Cincinnati, Ohio. Before they teamed up for this newspaper, Peter Clark had published the Herlad of Freedom, and Herbert did La Bijou while he taught in Mississippi. One copy is available: Vol. 4, no. 2, on September 19, 1885. The ending date is unclear. Lawrence Grossman's study of Peter Clark ("In His Veins Coursed No Bootlicking Blood: The Career of Peter H. Clark," Ohio History Journal, 1977) suggests that the newspaper lasted into the 1890s.
