Description

The Aliened American was the first black newspaper in Cleveland, Ohio. Publisher and editor, William Howard Day, published the newspaper weekly, every Saturday morning, from 1853 to 1856 with his wife, Lucie Stanton's substantial help. He collaborated with corresponding editors: Samuel Ringgold Ward (Toronto) and Rev. James William Charles Pennington (New York). We only have one extant copy, Vol. 1, no. 1, on Saturday, April 9, 1853. “To furnish News: To favor Literature, Science and Art: To aid the development, Education, Mechanical and Social, of Colored Americans: To depend the Right of Humanity”
